A topographic survey is very detailed survey that shows the surface features of a property, identifies the natural and man-made features and land elevations in the form of contours. This type of survey is conducted when a property owner wishes to prepare a comprehensive plan for the development of the property and is often required in order to secure a building permit. A topographic survey is also required for certain types of drainage systems and landscaping features. Topographical surveys are used by engineers, architects, and builders to determine a strategy for any development on the given property.
